Summer is here and it’s a great time to make some DIY sun cream. Store-bought ones have many toxic ingredients that are bad for you AND the environment. Why not make some at home … it’s so easy! For this homemade sun lotion we're only going to use natural ingredients. The SPF is approximately 20 and it's all natural so make sure to reapply frequently.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup almond oil
- ¼ cup organic cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil
- 1 tsp cold-pressed raspberry seed oil
- 1 tsp carrot seed essential oil
- 2 tbsp zinc oxide
- 1 tbsp shea butter (optional)
- A few drops of essential oil (optional - we used lavender oil)
Instruction:
- Boil a couple inches of water in a medium-sized pan. Turn down the heat to medium and place a stainless steel bowl on top of the pan.
- Add all ingredients except for the zinc oxide and let it melt and mix well.
- Mix in the zinc oxide. Be careful not to inhale the zinc oxide!
- Turn off the heat and transfer the mixture into a glass jar. Let it cool in room temperature.
- Place the glass jar in the fridge. Give the mixture a good stir with a spoon every 15 minutes to make sure the zinc oxide is evenly mixed in.
- Once the mixture is set it's ready for use! Keep it in the fridge for a cooling sun cream. In warmer temperatures the mixture will liquify so make sure the container is leak proof.
